ZIL-131 succeeded ZIL-157. ZIL-131 is a military/off-road counterpart of a 4 X 2 ZIL-130. It is one of the most abundant vehicle in the Russian Army, approximately 40% of army's vehicles are ZIL-131. This typically military cabin can also be seen on ZIL-UAmZ-130 which you can find on ZIL-130 page. But that is very rare. Most of ZIL-131 are painted in dark green color and serve either in military or in the forest districts. In late 1980's ZIL-131 was replaced by a modernized 6 X 6 ZIL-4334.

* The ZIL-131V tractor in this drawing is the carrier (not launcher) of SA-5 Gammon missile. SA-5 Gammon has a length of 16.5 m, diameter (1.1 m boost) 850 mm missile, main wing span 3.96 m, launch mass 10,000 kg and estimated range 250 km.

**This fire engine AC-40-7 is manufactured by Ukrainian fire fighting plant, PozhMashina, on ZIL-131 chassis.  It is AC-40(131)-137, the pump is capable of pumping 40 liters of water per second.  The cab fits 7 firefighters.  The water tank holds 2,400 liters of water and 150 liters of foam.  It is equipped with a station monitor.

19 KB (color, side view [ZIL-131 BGM-1] [162]). This car was in the East German army, used for digging.

Once, I have ridden in a ZIL-131 with a group of foresters [including Alexander Rudolfovich Keler] who were on their way to plant young fir trees in place of construction timbers that have been cut down.
