Initially, this bus was made only as ZIL-158 in Moscow, then in 1959 it became the first product of LiAZ. In 1961, production of this bus was completely stopped at ZIL but continued for a number of years as LiAZ-158V. LiAZ-158V differs from ZIL-158 in that it has an improved transmission, one disc clutch, drive gear with 2 interior supports, and a different main gear ratio.
