In 1956 engineers went to work on construction of this small displacement car Moskvich-444. In 1957 its first prototype was assembled. The design of this car was "borrowed" FIAT-600. Technical parameters of this car were passed down to ZAZ where Moskvich-444 (but with a 4 cylinder engine) became *ZAZ-965.
