There also existed a 3-axle prototype bus (89 KB [3]) ZIS-LUX, made around 1934, which never went to the assembly line. Then, in 1939, a prototype (56 KB [7]) ZIS-17 was made, but its production was interrupted by the Great Patriotic War [WWII]. ZIS-8 is based on ZIS-5 -- a very common truck. Just comparing the engine parameters makes their similarities very clear. ZIS-16 engine can also be found on ZIS-42M [1943-1944].
