In 1965 MZMA was working on Formula-1 car. Engine GD1 (1,500 cc, 200 h.p.) was designed for this purpose and a special 5 speed gear box to go along with it (this gear box was later used on Moskvich-G5). In 1967 due to financial difficulties, work on Formula-1 cars was terminated.

In 1969 Moskvich-G5 with forcified 412 engine with 2 distributor drive shafts. In 1972 Moskvich-G5 was equipped with fiberglass body and a more powerful 124 h.p. engine. From 1969-1973 3 gold, 1 silver, and 1 bronze medals won on this car. All MZMA sports cars were created and masterminded by I.A.Gladilniy and Lev M. Shugurov.
