In 1959 work on Moskvich-408 started. The body was to become absolutely new, engine to undergo more improvements. From 1962-1965 a transitional Moskivch-403 (M-403E for export) (body of Moskvich-407 but mechanisms of Moskvich-408). Station wagon modification Moskvich-424 (M-424E for export) and van modification Moskvich-432 (1963-1965) were based on Moskvich-403. Moskvich-403 differed from the previous model Moskvich-407 in that it had metal bumper strips instead of fangs on 407.
